Kilima Retreats provide a unique opportunity to experience the qualities of a luxurious African safari within the scenic surroundings of Somerset. You may not encounter the ‘Big Five’ of the Dark Continent – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo – but you may well spot feral goats and Soay sheep in Cheddar Gorge, wild ponies and deer on Exmoor and even beavers and boar, which have recently been reintroduced. The Kilima glampsite itself attracts many birds, including owls, and is a Bat Conservation Area and hedgehog rescue centre.

Nestled in the foothills of the Quantock Hills National Landscape, Kilima is the fulfilment of a vision held by South African-born Sarah and her mother, Angela, after they decided to settle in the UK, land of Sarah’s grandparents.

They have invested in two stunning geodesic domes which are extremely warm and weatherproof and each accommodate up to four adults. Guests are close to nature but with their own kitchen, shower and toilet and all the comforts of home, such as deeply comfy beds, wood-fired stoves, Ninja multi-cookers, Nespresso machines, smart TV with streaming services.

They also have panoramic views, a Skydeck for optimal stargazing and outdoor facilities with plush sofas, firepits and hot tubs for tranquil evenings of reflection.

Sarah says: “This is our dream home, so serene and beautiful. We are thrilled to share it with our guests.”
