Sometimes the pace of learning in schools is just too fast for all children to keep up and they find themselves rapidly being left behind. Strong Foundations Tuition provides a fantastic safety net enabling youngsters to learn at a steadier, surer pace in a fun, supportive environment.
Run by teaching professional Helen Wass, Strong Foundations Tuition offers both one-to-one and small group learning sessions in early years English and maths, plus music lessons in piano and violin. Pupils are mainly aged from three to eight and classes are practical, with lots of learning-based play and discovery.
Before starting the business, Helen had a 20 year teaching career covering various subjects in primary and secondary schools, plus two years at a private nursery which showed her ‘a whole new way of encouraging children to love learning.’
She started running Strong Foundations Tuition in January 2024 and went full-time with it in June 2025.
“Schools have to move through the curriculum so quickly it can be tough for children to keep up,” she says. “If their understanding of the basics is shaky, they quickly start to struggle and become disillusioned.
“My classes are all about giving children a really secure grounding, building their confidence and resilience.”
Classes are mainly weekly and run all year round, including through school holidays. Children can join at any time and parents pay for as many or as few sessions as they wish.
