Anance is named after the Greek goddess of necessity, that fabled mother of invention. The business is how creative mum Anita Gemmell has combined her love of crafting with a career and looking after two young sons.
She started by helping a friend make paper flower bouquets, then went into jewellery making and sold at craft fairs. When her first baby arrived, she switched to making box frames holding displays, pictures and mottos for friends and family. Then, she challenged herself to learn new skills every week and soon the hobby became a home-based business.
Now, Anita sells a wide range of items for men, women, children, valentines, and indeed anybody who is anything in someone else’s life. She takes great care in making every item, whether they be pretty Christmas tree decorations, personalised baby gifts or amusing keepsakes. Anance also delivers excellent customer service.
“It’s snowballed since I started six or seven years ago,” says Anita. “I love making things and I hope my customers love shopping for them.”
