In the past, Scourie Lodge was built by the Victorian Duke of Sutherland and visited by distinguished guests including Peter Pan author J M Barrie, the young Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon – later Queen Mother – and four times Prime Minister William Gladstone. Today, these splendid premises are a dog and family-friendly Highland paradise providing high quality bed and breakfast in five en-suite guest bedrooms. An on-site restaurant, The Woodland Table, offers delicious Scottish fare for lunch and dinner.
Overlooking beautiful Scourie Bay on Scotland’s North West coast and on the famous NC500 road touring route, the historic house is a blissful place to stay with its beautiful walled garden and peaceful woodland only a short walk from a pristine local beach and stunning landscapes.
The spot is barely an hour’s drive from Ullapool, famous for boat trips, watersports, hiking and Knocken Crag National Nature Reserve, but there is much to enjoy locally, too. The three peaks of Quinag Mountain are within a 15 minute drive, while Wailing Widow Falls and Grade A listed Kylesku Bridge are musts for any serious sightseers.
The wildlife in these parts is outstanding and visitors frequently enjoy activities such as fly fishing, trips to Handa Island, famous for breeding seabirds including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and great skuas during spring and early summer. Scourie is within a designated UNESCO Geopark showcasing some of Europe’s oldest rocks.
