Local Artist Weaves and Crochets Precious Metal to Make Stunning Jewellery
Woven Art Jewellery produces unique and stunning pieces of jewellery, which are all individually designed and handmade by owner Jayne Robb. Jayne works mainly with sterling and fine silver and often incorporates beautiful gemstones, with many items custom made for individual clients.
Jayne started the business in 2013, working in her spare time while holding down a full time job as a marketing manager in Buckinghamshire. In 2018 she gave up her job and her old life, selling her home and moving to a new one in Worcestershire. Here she has had the space to create the workshop of her dreams, with areas for each different jewellery making process and even a small showroom where she can display her jewellery and talk to clients.
Jayne has always loved weaving and was taught to crochet as a girl by her grandmother. She started experimenting by applying these techniques to silver wire.
“It’s a bit different to crocheting or weaving with wool,” she says. “If you pull on the wire a kink doesn’t go away, it gets tighter. It takes longer than working with wool and is harder on the hands but the results are worth it!”
Jayne makes a number of items to sell in her online shop but particularly enjoys taking on commissions from people who are looking for something to treasure themselves or to give as very special gifts.
“I love the challenge and it helps me develop new skills as well,” she says. “The customers love it because each piece is unique and special to them.”
