Worcester’s Biggest Event of the Summer is Back this August!

The Worcester Festival is back for its 15th year, kicking off on Saturday 12th August and running right through to the August bank holiday on Monday 28th August, with events and activities happening all over the city every single day.

Festival regulars can expect all of the Festival favourites, including Festival mascot Percy the Peacock, who will be out and about handing out balloons and posing for #percypics, the fabulous Funky Faces Face Painters, live music on the High Street every Saturday, the Swan Theatre Summer Fête, and the annual St Richard’s Hospice Duck Race down by the river. Academy Theatre Arts will be holding a week-long summer school for 7-14-year-olds, with dancing, singing, acting and much more all on offer throughout the week, Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum and The Commandery will both be playing host to exhibitions and activities aplenty, and the Cathedral’s tower will be open.

This year also sees the return of the Worcester Show at Gheluvelt Park, and the launch of the Swan Theatre Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, with the characters dropping in to this year’s Swan Theatre Summer Fête to add a bit of sparkle and magic! A fantastic family Prize Quiz Trail is back for the third year running, as is the Crowngate Percy Trail – look out for Percy’s face in shop windows throughout Crowngate to find out more – plus, new for this year, there will be a a Percy colouring competition, for anyone wanting to get their artistic hat on!

As always, the Festival will come to an end with a bang with the St Richard’s Hospice Festival Fireworks, a great finale to the fortnight’s celebrations on the August Bank Holiday Monday, with entertainment down on South Quay from 9pm before the display at 10pm.

A lively celebration of Worcester and its people, the Festival programme includes walks, talks, workshops, exhibitions, arts and crafts, markets, treasure trails, live music, tours, performances, open days, competitions, classes and more, with a great range of children’s events perfect for keeping the whole family entertained over the summer holidays.

Festival Director Chris Jaeger said: “August is always an exciting time in Worcester, and this August will be no exception. The Worcester Festival is a people’s festival. It offers a wide range of eclectic events for all the family, and many of the events are free. What could be better at holiday time? It’s a great opportunity to try an event at a venue you’ve never been to, or perhaps to try something you’ve never done before. We really hope as many people as possible come along and get involved. Let’s get celebrating!”

The Worcester Festival really does have something for everyone – for all ages, interests and budgets. To find out more about what’s on please visit www.worcesterfestival.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01905 611427.
