Today marks the end of Paris Haute Couture Week – and if you’re still not sure what makes couture different from the normal fashion shows that roll around twice a year, these images should help make it a whole lot clearer.
Haute couture roughly translates to ‘high fashion’, so the detail and expense dedicated to couture is much greater than regular clothes (yes – the outfits are meant to look over-the-top!).
This also means outfits that hit the runway aren’t exactly what you would look to for everyday wardrobe inspiration. Instead, just sit back, relax, and ogle some of the most extravagant looks from this season’s haute couture shows.
You couldn’t exactly wear this Iris Van Herpen creation to nip to Tesco.
Unfortunately for the poor models at Viktor and Rolf’s show, you couldn’t even see their faces.
Yes, that genuinely is a model cycling down the runway for Jean-Paul Gaultier.
We have a sneaking suspicion the designers at Franck Sorbier have been watching a lot of sci-fi movies recently…
Ralph & Russo gave 80s shoulderpads an update with this furry look.
Whereas Giambattista Valli gave the mullet an haute couture spin.
One model sported some unusual headgear for AF Vandevorst.
While another model from the show didn’t bother with a hat and put her coat on her head instead.
This is why fashion is great – it’s simultaneously so silly and so serious!
