Tried and Tested | Ston Easton Park Somerset
‘Grand’ barely begins to describe the sumptuous surroundings of Ston Easton Park, a perfect Palladian mansion now serving as a luxurious hotel. It is set in 36 acres of landscaped gardens and a river in the splendid Somerset countryside and my memories of a brief but beautiful stay include amazing food, faultless service, a truly dog-friendly environment and the very best night’s sleep I’ve ever had.
My room was huge, spotless and, like all the en suite rooms at Ston Easton, featured a deeply pleasing four poster bed. Honestly, it was a struggle to get out of it in the morning, even with other opulent furnishings including comfy seating, plump cushions, extravagant drapes, use of fluffy bathrobes, slippers, TV, DVD player and a wow of a welcome platter.
This hotel was genuinely pet friendly. Many places claim to be but aren’t! Dogs were allowed everywhere except the restaurant. They could be left in rooms at meal times or guests could have food delivered to their rooms. The hotel loaned complimentary wellies for walks in the gorgeous grounds. They’d even lend you a dog! It’s child friendly too.
The fine dining restaurant commands a top notch AA 4 Red Star rating. That was reflected in my own dinner, a superb seven course taster menu including lemon sole with octopus & fennel, delectable duck breast with cherry sauce and a super-special raspberry & chocolate dessert.
The staff were friendly and attentive but never overbearing and all very proud of the hotel. Food & Beverage Manager Alexandru Dan has won impressive awards and international honours for his wine expertise and skills as a maitre d’. Sales & Marketing Manager Aerolene Stephenson says: “We’re going from strength to strength and extremely exciting times are ahead.”
Everything was about quality and comfort. I loved it!
