This Product Is Sold Every Second in France—So Obviously We Want It

If there’s one beauty thing we know about the French it’s that they love their products. They are utterly spoiled (read: we’re jealous) with product-laden shelves in the standard French pharmacies that hold every type of incredible brand and product that make your skin look clear, glowing and well, French. And there’s a reason why the French skincare business is booming: demand. French women spend £1.9 billion on anti-ageing products every year, which is twice as much as British women. Not only that, but our neighbours over the channel start their anti-ageing regimen earlier than we do.

All of this makes us think that a) it’s unfair we weren’t born French, and b) anything the French use, we needed in our bathroom cabinets yesterday. Which leads us nicely onto one major product is crazy-popular in France. In fact, it’s such a big seller that three are sold every second. That’s right three. Every second. As a lover of this product already, I was pleased, but I know it’s overlooked by many a Brit. And it helps out with a bevvy of skin problems. Ready to discover what it is? Keep scrolling to find out about this popular French beauty product and why it’s so amazing.

I can’t remember the first time I tried Avène’s Eau Thermale, but I can tell you this: It has helped my skin through many difficult situations over the years. Now look, let’s get the obvious out of the way first. It’s a saviour for when it gets unbearably hot in London over the summer. Or when it’s too warm on holiday. A quick mist over you face (or body) immediately refreshes your skin, but it also can be handy if you’ve spent a little bit too long in the sun, as it soothes sunburn, too. The second way I use it? Well, this one isn’t exactly something I’m proud of, but if I’ve had too much to drink the night before then Avène’s Eau Thermale is excellent at picking up my tired face. A quick mist after moisturiser helps my foundation smooth over my dehydrated skin more easily, and a mist post-application helps set the makeup. I keep it close at hand and top-up throughout the day to help keep me looking alive (even if I feel anything but). You can use it after you’ve removed your makeup (especially if you’ve used wipes), after you’ve shaved to soothe, after you’ve worked out, for facial redness or for any type of skin irritation. So, what’s in it that makes it so incredible? When it comes to skin protection, studies have shown that the zinc in this mineral-rich water spray helps to produce antioxidants that combat damaging free radicals that soak up UV rays. As for the soothing properties, its mineral content helps to calm skin when it’s irritated or feeling sensitive. At £3 a pop, you can’t blame me for having one on my desk, in my handbag, and on my bedside table…. Next up! How to apply bronzer and make it look real. Opening Image: Rouje
