My family and I stayed overnight, staying in one of the gorgeous modern self catering lodges set in three acres of meadows and trees. These lodges are child friendly, dog friendly and only five minutes’ walk from the Baiting House itself, which is so called because it was traditionally where who had slogged their way up the hill on foot would stop for a bite, known as a bait in local dialect.
Our lodge was superb, catering for up to four people with a king size bedroom, a living area with a sofa bed, a bathroom with a double shower, a fully equipped kitchen and a patio with barbecue facilities. It had absolutely everything we needed.
The furniture and décor was high quality contemporary and the provision of complimentary toiletries, home made muffins and milk was a wonderful surprise, but the pièce de résistance was our very own hot tub, right there on the patio. Wheyhey!
We chose to take out evening meal in the Baiting House itself, feasting on an .array of treats starting with hors d’oeuvres of deep fried soft cheese and onion balls with home made raisin bread, truly delicious. The starters and main courses were impressive, demonstrating how the Baiting House has earned two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. We especially recommend the mushroom risotto at this venue which prides itself on using only the freshest foods from by local suppliers who share the same values of excellence.
We also enjoyed having before and after dinner drinks in the cosy bar.
Breakfast was another meal of real quality. All the staff members were friendly and efficient at all times, making us feel very welcome throughout. We thoroughly recommend this relaxing venue for couples and families, especially if they have dogs.
