Sowing seeds for new glorious garden features at Royal Three Counties Show

KNOWN AS THE LANDMARK EVENT in the agricultural calendar, the Royal Three Counties Show is introducing a new Gardening Hub with a host of horticultural delights for green-fingered visitors.

Diana Walton, Head of Shows at the Three Counties, said: “This is our 60th year of proudly hosting the Royal Three Counties Show at Malvern and for our ‘diamond jubilee’ we really wanted to pull out all the stops. We’re well-known for our livestock and equine, entertainment and fantastic food, so this year we looked at where we could grow extra elements of the show.

“We have a wealth of gardening experience around us here at the Three Counties Showground, so for 2018 we have created our Gardening Hub – a hotspot for garden enthusiasts, with specialist nurseries, interactive workshops and garden guru, Martin Fish’s Gardening Roadshow.”

The new Gardening Hub is the ideal place to stock up on summer blooms from local specialist plant nurseries and get advice on how to make the most of your garden or veg plot. Bespoke Gardening Consultant Martin Fish will be on hand with his Gardening Roadshow where visitors can get expert answers to their burning horticultural questions. He’ll be joined by pelargonium expert Helen Bainbridge and Kitchen Garden editor Steve Ott. There’ll be questions and answers with all three throughout the day with additional guest speakers from the area including poultry expert Huw Evans on Saturday and Sunday talking about keeping poultry in the garden.

The roadshow is geared up for young gardening fans too with a series of entertaining interactive workshops for schools on Friday, June 15.

The Village Show marquee will bring together junior, novice and expert gardeners as they exhibit the very best flowers and vegetables harvested from their gardens. Offering plenty of food for thought, with more than 200 exhibits, this is the perfect place to seek inspiration if you’re looking to grow your own at home.

This year Worcestershire WI celebrates 100 years and has been awarded the honour of hosting the coveted Huxley Cup Competition. The annual flower arranging competition is open to WI groups nationally and an exceptionally high standard of entries is anticipated. The prestigious cup was presented to the WI in 1938 and is awarded to the best imposed exhibit. This means the exhibit theme will only be provided on the staging day along with all materials, sundries and containers.

The popular International Orchid Show returns for its sixth year, celebrating the much loved exotic flower that has a staggering 30,000 species in the wild. Exquisite orchids will be flown in courtesy of specialist growers from Malaysia, Taiwan, Ecuador, Holland, Denmark and Germany.

Visitors will be able to meet more than 25 growers from across the globe as well as those in the UK. There’ll be many different species to buy as well as orchid growing sundries, with experts on hand to give guidance on growing conditions and to demonstrate re-potting and plant care.

The Royal Three Counties Show will take place from Friday 15 June until Sunday 17 June. Tickets are now on sale. Advanced tickets are from £19 for adults and £5 for children, family tickets are also available.
