Poston Mill – One of the UK’s greenest places to take a holiday
Professor David Bellamy has named Poston Mill Park near Peterchurch, Herefordshire as one of the UK’s greenest places to take a holiday – and awarded it a special accolade for protecting the natural world.
Set in 35 acres of tranquil countryside, Pet friendly Poston Mill is again a proud holder of the Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award which celebrates parks with forward-looking environmental policies.
The family-run business provides luxury holiday homes to buy and fully serviced pitch facilities for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents. We also have 3 properties which we let for self-catering.
Over the past twelve years, owners Wayne and Sarah Jones have planted a selection of indigenous trees and hedges, creating a natural haven for wildlife.
The park’s managed riverbank and damp areas are also a focus for many different residents and visiting bird species, as well as dragonflies, newts and other aquatic life.
In addition, Wayne and Sarah have created a wildflower area in the grounds sown with high nectar-bearing blooms which provides valuable foraging resources for honeybees and other pollinators.
We have waking trails around the park with information boards showing wildlife that has been spotted along the way.
Sarah Jones said that everyone at the park was delighted at the news of David Bellamy’s award:
“We have always tried to manage Poston Mill along sustainable lines, and that includes harvesting rainwater for irrigating plants, and stocking locally sourced produce in our park shop,” said Sarah. “Poston Mill has long had a special appeal to guests seeking a perfect escape in a tranquil setting, and it’s also a great place for children to come and learn more about the natural world.
“We’ve always felt very privileged to live and work in such a beautiful part of Herefordshire and have always tried to ensure that the park is a match for these beautiful surroundings,” she added.
