Proud Pershore residents are joining forces to support Combat Stress with a memorial project designed out of recycled horseshoes.

The idea was forged by Sue Cosnett, of Lancelott Court, Pershore and is fully backed by Wychavon District Council. The horse will be designed and created by local blackmith Steve Ellis Cooper.

Sue said: “Last year marked the centenary of the First World War and as someone who’s lived in Pershore all my life I wanted to do something positive to mark the occasion within my local community. The design itself will reflect not only our fallen heroes but also the huge number of animals that also died alongside them.”

The logo shows a purple poppy which depicts the loss of thousands of animals during the war and will be incorporated into the design.

Hoping to gain as much local support as possible the group’s target is to raise £12,000 by the end of October to cover the cost of the build, with the surplus funds being donated to Combat Stress. Sue added:

“It would be great to have as much local support as possible and we’re calling on all local residents to help – your community needs you. Together, let’s make this happen.”
