Holidaymakers who want a Cornish memento to treasure frequently find their perfect item among the distinctive ranges of Jo Downs Handmade Glass.
Since gaining a degree in glass and ceramic design in the 1990s and working with some of the UK’s foremost designers, Jo Downs has herself become one of the leading fused glass artists in the world, drawing ideas and enthusiasm from the richly beautiful Cornish coast.
Jo’s work has included building her own collections of giftware, such as bowls, vases, mirrors, frames and candle holders, undertaking commissions for prestigious developments and establishing exclusive ranges for high profile clients like the National Trust, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project.
This innovator now has seven galleries of her own – five in Cornwall – and recently completed a 4.5 by 2 metre glass installation for the foyer of University College London Hospital.
Jo’s marketing manager, Laura Peters, says: “Jo’s giftware ranges are available for people to buy online, including the iconic Cornish Pilchards collection for which she is probably best known. The galleries carry giftware along with a selection of Jo’s signature pieces, a unique collection inspired and created by Jo herself.
“Jo also undertakes bespoke commissions for people, producing beautiful one off pieces, perhaps for a special anniversary or a feature in a home.”
