Hidden Gems | The Farm Stratford
The Farm Stratford is far more than a farm! It is a unique destination dedicated to all things good and wholesome, centred on good food, healthy lifestyles and love of the great outdoors. It is a place to come to eat, buy, learn about food, see animals such as goats, pigs and chickens and enjoy lively activities for all the family. It is a synthesis of ethical production and sustainable lifestyles, of caring about the environment.
Once a derelict fruit business, The Farm, Stratford has been restored and reinvented with a vision to feed and educate the public. To start the new decade, The Farm will stage a Wellness Month to help people rejuvenate after any Christmas excess and get moving again.
This exciting family run business has a number of exciting aspects.
- A 60-seater wholefood café with a vibrant, seasonal menu. The food and drink on offer comes from the farm itself and from other local ethical and artisan producers. Everything is always fresh and bursting with flavour, making this a great place to eat out with friends or family. The kitchen is open so you can see exactly how your meal is being prepared and learn about it from the chefs.
- Flourish, a unique range of energetic educational activities and school holiday camps for children aged seven to 14, such as den building, nature trails, foraging, crafts and team games. Also including maths for KS2 & 3, they are run by specialist educators who aim to instil a love of learning.
- Cookery School, with a varied and ever changing programme of one day classes which include, this January, cooking for health, vegan cookery, butchery, sweet dough specials such as jammy donuts and Chelsea buns, Sushi and breadmaking for beginners. Each class will enable learners of any age to go away with skills they can use and enjoy for the rest of their lives.
- Artisan Food Shop, an attractive source of ethically produced foods from the Stratford locality and further afield, including meat, fish, cheese, preserves and fresh produce.
Open until 5pm Monday to Saturday and 4pm on Sundays, The Farm is the brainchild of the Wells family and aims to provide a fabulous experience for each and every visitor.
Founder Charlie Wells, says: “The Farm is a hidden gem where people can learn where their food comes from. We will have a new menu from January and we aim to be completely plastic-free by the end of the year, with the help of our suppliers.”
The new year will start with a Healthier Happier You workshop with Victoria Adams on Saturday January 4. Experiences will include juicing for fat loss, dynamic yoga, anti-inflammatory nutrition for stress and symptoms of hormonal imbalance, bliss yoga and a talk, all for £80.
The Farm also offers workshops and team building experiences for private and corporate clients, away from the public areas.
