Established in 1946, the business promotes shooting excellence for all, starting with comprehensive young people’s tuition from the age of 12. It has impeccable credentials. It was originally run by leading gun makers Westley Richards and William Powell, two of the most respected names in gun making history. Now the centre maintains its well-honed standards in the hands of Head Coach Ian Butler and his son, Senior Coach Gareth Butler.

Ian is a gunsmith who worked for William Powell before turning to coaching as well more than 40 years ago. Gareth was the 2016 Hereford and Worcester County Sporting Champion. Together Ian, Gareth, Event Manager Sallie, Grounds Manager/Instructor Shane and their team provide friendly, expert instruction for both clay and simulated game shooting for everyone, from young beginners to experienced improvers. The shooting ground itself has stands suitable for people of every level of experience.

Youth lessons teach girls and boys about discipline and responsible attitudes as well as shooting skills and they are available to school classes as well as individual learners. The shotguns used will be picked to suit the physical build of the particular pupil and may be teamed with low noise and low recoil cartridges.

Older and experienced shooters frequently find that they, too, benefit from individual lessons to pinpoint difficulties or bad habits which may be holding them back.

Clay pigeon Starter Packages provide six one-to-one lessons for people interested in shooting as a sport, including an introduction to the different shooting disciplines of sporting, skeet, compact and down the line, plus discounts on guns and equipment. Legal advice is on hand.

Hospitality events are a speciality of Hereford & Worcester Shooting Ground, lasting either half or a full day. Catering for 15 to 75 people, these may be hen or stag parties, charity fund raising events, entertainment for business guests or company team building days. Typically, they start with breakfast rolls, tea and coffee, followed by a briefing and then shooting practice and tuition until it’s time for a pleasant three course lunch. After that would follow a shooting competition followed by prize giving and farewells in the licensed bar.
