The best of both coast and countryside at The Granary Cottages
Nestled in the North York Moors National Park, just outside the historical fishing port of Whitby, lies The Granary Cottages, three modern sandstone cottages recently converted from an old barn by owners Jenny Lonsdale and Paul Swales.
Accommodating four to six people in each (fourteen in total), these self-catering cottages are the perfect place from which to explore everything Whitby and the surrounding area has to offer. With all mod cons, including dishwasher, Freeview TV and BT Infinity Wi-Fi, these charming cottages have been converted to the highest standard in order to offer a unique holiday experience.
Jenny said: “We bought this unconverted barn five years ago and converted a section into our own home, before getting planning permission for a further four self-catering cottages. We’ve completed three so far, two two-beds and one three-bed, and we will be completing the four-bed by next summer. We know what a popular and beautiful place Whitby and the surrounding area is and how many people visit the area each year. I also used to work in a hotel, so I know the local hospitality industry. “Each cottage benefits from a modern, open-plan, calm interior with underfloor heating throughout, as well as luxury bedlinen, soft towels, DAB radio and 40” flatscreen TV/DVD. Outside there’s a large family-friendly shared garden, patio and alfresco dining areas with outside feature lighting.” Located at Bannial Flatts Farm, which was originally part of the historic Raithewaite Estate, The Granary Cottages are ideally placed to explore the delights ‘God’s own Country’. There are numerous walking and cycling routes from the doorstep for those who love the outdoors, while those with children can explore the steam trains, castles, forests and theme parks nearby, not to mention the array of attractions on offer one mile away in Whitby.
Jenny added: “As we’re within the North York Moors, there’s just so much to enjoy from the doorstep, be it walking, wildlife spotting or the more active activities, such as mountain biking and horse riding. “As we’re a stone’s throw from town and the beach, the cottages offer the best of both worlds with both the Yorkshire Jurassic coast and breath-taking countryside within easy reach. The cottages can either be booked alone or together for larger parties. We love to greet our guests when they arrive with a cup of Yorkshire tea or a bottle of wine, as well as some sweet local treats; we want guests to feel at home from the moment they arrive.”
Prices start from £95 per night (minimum three nights stay). During the peak summer season, the cottages can only be booked for a week (Friday change over day), with prices starting from £675.
