Ernest’s Retreat an amazing glamping location

Panoramic views over four counties and proximity to some of England’s best loved visitor attractions make Ernest’s Retreat an amazing glamping location.

Based high up on the edge of the Peak District near Matlock, Derbyshire, Ernest’s Retreat is a family run site with two -person rambler pods, four-person camping cabins and glamper pods for up to five people. All have electricity supplies to run appliances such as kettles and toasters and spaced out to give privacy. Guests enjoy free use of a modern shower & toilet block.

The peaceful farmland location enables people to really wind down and relax. At the same time it allows easy access to the popular towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath, the Heights of Abraham tourist attraction of showcaves and country park and, only 10 minutes’ drive away, the grand Chatsworth House. Within sight is the English Heritage mansion of Bolsover Castle, built by flamboyant cavalier William Cavendish and once frequented by Charles I and his queen.

Ernest’s Retreat is run by Peter & Claire Halksworth and George & Laura Walker.

“We get a lot of families and also groups of friends,” says Laura. “Because we’re very central it’s a great place for gatherings where people come together from different parts of the country. Lots of people come here for their birthday celebrations.”
