Editor’s Choice The Silver Boat Jewellery
Climb aboard the floating workshop of The Silver Jewellery Boat and you’ll enjoy a unique day out learning the skills of silversmithing from an accomplished craftsman. Once completed, you’ll have a piece of personalised silver jewellery to take home with you, plus bragging rights for having made it yourself!
The Silver Jewellery Boat is a 60 ft narrowboat moored on the historic and tranquil Droitwich canals. Its owner, Jonathan Kettle, offers one day courses for people who are absolute beginners or who would like to improve their skills. Jonathan is an experienced tutor and runs the courses at a relaxed pace for a maximum of four people at a time, so everyone gets plenty of personal guidance as well as very pleasant coffee and cake.
“I aim to give everyone a quality crafting experience in a unique setting,” he says.
Courses cover various tools and techniques, including sizing and soldering, cutting and shaping and adding texture, lettering and polishing. People then move on to working in silver to produce their chosen piece.
Some courses focus on Anglo Saxon jewellery designs which are popular with historical re-enactors. Extra specially, couples can even fashion their own wedding bands.
Many testimonials from highly satisfied Silver Jewellery Boat customers confirm it’s ‘a terrific day out’ and ‘a great way to celebrate a special occasion.’
