Editor’s Choice Hippersons Boatyard
Hippersons Boatyard is an idyllic holiday spot in which to enjoy the wildlife and tranquillity of The Broads inland waterways. It offers cosy, comfortable family accommodation in four houseboats and a luxury floating glamping pod for a unique experience on the River Waveney. Local residents include barn owls, kingfishers and a family of otters.
Hippersons continues to offer traditional boat building and repairs as started in the 1950s, but the Sparrow family who took over in 2014 have loved improving the wildlife habitat with butterfly and bee-friendly planting. They have also recently refreshed the houseboats with modern décor and appliances.
The floating pod, Secret Water, is the first of its kind in the UK. It sleeps four in a double and two bunk beds, has a compact kitchen, a wet room shower with toilet, underfloor heating and a splendid deck. Sunset views towards Beccles Bridge and Quay are simply stunning.
All the accommodation includes one complimentary use of a rowing boat to explore the River Waveney, on the edge of Beccles, a highly attractive town with an array of eateries. Guests can also hire day boats, canoes, kayaks and cycles.
Holiday hosts Simon and Mary Sparrow live on site with their son, Nate and offer bike rides and paddlecraft experiences.
“It’s a great place to have your own Swallow & Amazons holiday,” says Mary.
