Elan Valley is a picturesque area known for its five scenic reservoirs and the spectacular dams built by Victorian engineers. It is also home to some very varied wildlife. The nearby Rhayader Wildlife Centre of Wales is proud to be ‘kite country’ and also enjoys peregrine falcons, red grouse, wheatears, stonechats and whinchats among many others.
The hotel is family run and open all year. It provides spacious double/twin rooms, three bedded family rooms, a romantic double with a four poster bed and spa bath and a downstairs double with full disability access. Well behaved dogs are welcome in some bedrooms as well as in the bar.
The restaurant serves wholesome traditional meals including Sunday roasts, while the conservatory is an ice cream parlour serving Welsh double cream ice cream.
One of the family owners, Liz Davies, says: “The hotel has got bags of character and we are the only licensed premises in the valley. We get a lot of returning customers.”
