Darwin Forest | Tried and Tested
Derbyshire is a treasure trove of activities and places to enjoy but in the heart of it all, Darwin Forest holiday park is the prize gem! It is such a beautiful place to stay with every possible amenity to ensure everybody has a great time throughout, whatever the weather.
My family’s visit was while the snow was causing problems all over the country but our luxurious log cabin in this 5 Star holiday park was so cosy, spacious and comfortable we simply enjoyed gazing out over the forest setting and thinking how pretty it looked. Then, wearing our best winter woollies, it was a real treat to go out walking among the trees in that twinkling snowscene.
Darwin Forest is packed with things to do at all times of year and the staff were really hard working and at pains to help in every way they could. They had an amazing swimming pool which was highly popular with the children who were there, plus play areas and activities for all ages, from soft play for the littlest ones to pool, table tennis and arcade games for the older ones. The spa was just wonderful with its tranquil surroundings to sip drinks and enjoy a dip or an indulgent sauna or soak at leisure, although lots of the cabins have their own hot tubs! If you were so inclined, you could force yourself through a work out in their superbly equipped gym!
The on-site shop had everything you needed for self catering, not only mainstream groceries but also homemade chutneys and jams and things to amuse the kids, like toys and cards. If you weren’t in the mood to cook for yourselves, the restaurant was a thoroughly appealing alternative. It served the most amazing food!
This part of the Midlands, in the Peak District, has so much going for it. Walkers love it, of course, but there are also lots of attractions, including world famous Chatsworth House, the Heights of Abraham approached by cable car, Alton Towers theme park, lots of fabulous caves and the Derwent Mills World Heritage Site. Matlock is fantastic and we found a most beautiful waterfall there.
The memories we made will stay with me and my family forever and I can’t wait to go back to see Darwin Forest in the summer when we will be able to enjoy all the outdoor activities they have there, from ‘zorbing’ to cycle riding. It really is a stunning place to stay and I intend taking my extended family at least twice a year from now on!
