Charcoal isn’t usually something we associate with oral hygiene; It’s not like If I’ve forgotten to brush my teeth, I head on over to BnQ grab myself a bag of charcoal and be on my way… Its something we associate with BBQing, summer and the garden, am I right? But saying that this dark powered residue resembling crumbled charcoal has found itself as one of the best grooming products for 2017, a product that has been plastered over the media, articles and social media, its way to your bathroom shelf and its here to stay, so the real question you have to ask yourself is why?

When we see this product in a modern-day container with fancy branding, we naturally assume that it’s from this era, a modern invention to make your day a little easier. Well, sorry to disappoint but this method is old, really old! So old we are predating back to ancient medicine techniques in 1500bc. Now don’t worry, its not like we have just read an old history book and thought, hey that would be great! We have changed it, adapted it and corrected it for the modern era… Phew!

So, What Is Activated Charcoal? You see this term on a lot of the charcoal products like at some point throughout your brush something magical happens. Well, you’re not that far from the truth! The less-scientific definition is that it’s carbon treated chemically or physically to develop pores that allow the substance to detoxify the body from harmful substances and bacteria, which of course is what you want from a good brush!

There are many benefits to using it over standard toothpaste, they include;

Cavity blocker: Brushing with a charcoal-infused toothpaste changes the PH balance in your mouth, to rid molars of decaying spots, it does this by removing any acidic build ups.

Fight halitosis: Bad breath can occur when toxins leave the body, by using a product like charcoal toothpaste it will get rid of any trolls hiding in behind those shiny teeth of yours.

Whitens Teeth: Lastly what people seem to be most interested about is that it whitens your teeth, it whitens them incredibly well. You have probably seen those before and after photos on Instagram and been skeptical, but I can assure they are real!
