Aberdovey Golf Club Ranked Among The Top 100 In The UK

Golfers who love the game will love it all the more with a Play & Stay break at Aberdovey Golf Club. Based on the southern tip of Snowdonia National Park, this is a traditional links course benefitting from the beauty and drama of a breathtaking coastal location.

Aberdovey Golf Club’s course is ranked among the top 100 in the UK. Nature has played perhaps even more of a part in shaping it than the early 20th century course architects Colt, Braid and Fowler.

Many professionals, and even greats of the game, have played at Aberdovey, which regularly hosts international championships, but players of all standards love the scenic surroundings, the quirky features and the fringe of sand dunes between the course and Cardigan Bay. Any hard-won birdies are frequently overseen by the resident ones, including red kites, buzzards, even skylarks.

Aberdovey Golf Club is a great place to enjoy a full-on golfing break. Accommodation is provided in six twin bedrooms which are annexed to the clubhouse, all en suite with daily servicing. It is competitively priced including a full Welsh breakfast in the clubhouse and ideally suited for groups of12, although people can also book in as pairs or foursomes, sometimes to play in the frequent open competitions.

The clubhouse itself is modern, rebuilt after the original one was destroyed by fire in 1997, and serves good food and drink in convivial surroundings throughout the day.

While staying over, some players like to catch the train from outside the club to play at Royal St Davids, Harlech, another Welsh club rated in the top 100.  The coastal train ride is really quite spectacular.

For non-golfers and golfers between games, Aberdovey itself is a pleasant village renowned for watersports including swimming, surfing and sailing and four miles of sandy beach between there and Tywyn. It also has an appealing line in boutiques and eateries among its quaint streets. This whole area of Wales is full of things to do and enjoy, including adventuring among the picturesque mountains and valleys of Snowdonia, visiting captivating towns and villages and enjoying diverse attractions from castles to copper mines.

Susie Waldock, Assistant Manager of Aberdovey Golf Club, says: “We have very good accommodation here and enjoy welcoming visitors. We can always tailor play & stay packages to meet people’s specific requirements.”
