3 DIY Ideas to Decorate your Home for 2019
With 2019 on the horizon, it’s time to refresh the home for the new year! And with DIY décor and upcycling set to be huge, this is the perfect opportunity to get creative and put a fresh DIY spin on furniture and interiors giving the home a stylish and creative update.
Rebecca Snowden, Interior Style Advisor at Furniture Choice shares three trendy home DIYs that can easily be personalised to suit different styles and tastes.
1. Get organised with a hanging planter wall
Mindfulness is going to continue being a huge trend in 2019 – so it’s all about getting organised and creating pockets of thoughtfulness and meditation in the home. A hanging planter feature wall combines both! A creative way to make the most of existing space, this versatile feature can be hung in a variety of spaces, such as in the kitchen or home office.
A DIY that is easy to assemble, the planter wall requires simple materials such as wooden crates and a flat wire memo board. “Stylish and adaptable, this DIY comes together quickly, and can also be made with other materials – think wooden shelves or rope – depending on what’s on display,” says Rebecca. “This planter wall brings in more natural greenery into the home and can also be used as storage for small items.”
2. Give a feature wall an Art Deco update
Update a feature wall with an Art Deco twist, for a glamorous panelled wall that adds strong, angular lines to the space, and is a chic way to showcase artwork.
Attention to detail is key for this DIY – and all it takes is three contrasting colours, masking tape and a steady hand. “This Art Deco feature wall adds texture and interest to the room in a subtle, stylish way – especially with the contrast between the cool paint tones and glamorous gilded frames,” Rebecca says. “This is a great opportunity to pick and choose colours to create a variety of looks, whether it’s built around a bold or neutral aesthetic.”
3. Glam up furniture for a stylish makeover
Adding a sustainable dimension to decorating, upcycled home décor is great for homeowners who are looking for meaningful, unique designs. “Upcycling is a great way to reuse and repurpose furniture, giving them a dash of personality and refinement,” adds Rebecca. “This approach transforms items into one-of-a-kind pieces, while keeping things budget-friendly and chic.”
“The timeless Art Deco aesthetic is perfect for highlighting key pieces of furniture, transforming them into lovely statements at home. Floral or scalloped patterns can be transferred or spray painted onto furniture pieces like a side table for a show stopping new look. This eye-catching approach goes big on glamour, giving the updated side table an attractive edge that’ll pop in both the living or dining room.”
